Jia Junbo

Jia Junbo and his team now are focusing on designing and developing a lithium-ion battery power system to improve the battery endurance, reliability and lifespan of the energy storage system (ESS) through a smart battery management system (BMS), which can be widely used for the industrial applications. The key features of the system are,

- A smart battery management system (BMS) based on micro-controller and DSP technology. The system consists of monitoring, protection and communication subsystems. The BMS will incorporate innovative AI algorithms for active cell balancing, SOC and SOH prediction techniques as well as real-time system monitoring and the operation status of the battery stack.

- Battery state of charge (SOC) and state of health (SOH) prediction: The goal of SOC and SOH indication methods is to design a prediction system to provide an accurate SOC and SOH values under all realistic user conditions, including battery and user behaviour, a large temperature and current range and ageing of battery.

- High efficiency active balancing technology: The performance of a battery stack with different single cell capacities can be increased significantly when the charge from the cells is equalized. It can improve battery endurance and reliability that ultimately lengthens the lifetime of the batteries.

Jia Junbo published more than 30 papers, which are related to battery management system. Some of the Li-ion battery controlling and balancing technologies he and his team developed have been transferred to industrial partners.
